Hi guys! This is just a quick little update to tell you that these three cuties are up in my Etsy shop! You can click on the Etsy button to the right of this post, or you can click <u><a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/BigBlueCatCreations?ref=hdr_shop_menu" target="_blank">here</a></u>.<br />

Have a great week and enjoy the snow if you have any (we have about two feet of it over here which is really exciting).Blue Cathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11407029285782272046noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9134769884725075764.post-24234497223084284862016-01-21T15:58:00.000-05:002016-01-21T15:58:01.342-05:00Hijacked<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I was going to post a nice little update about my work in progress knitting, but said knitting was hijacked by a small cat on her quest for the ideal napping location.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglRarFsRcFTXkz2AaxhiJNz95E91HIuEgSBpOBdmCcL_ArHQpq446KVZlhVmb1W92WZwnII0kD-d-U9oZ_I9fhM55l1ytU3mX5URpdnuK60SKEUVBfjBfGVg5WXQPnOvYYkkYrXFK5YhcC/s1600/DSC_0415.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglRarFsRcFTXkz2AaxhiJNz95E91HIuEgSBpOBdmCcL_ArHQpq446KVZlhVmb1W92WZwnII0kD-d-U9oZ_I9fhM55l1ytU3mX5URpdnuK60SKEUVBfjBfGVg5WXQPnOvYYkkYrXFK5YhcC/s640/DSC_0415.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So I guess for now, despite a lack of full sized pictures, I can explain to you what I'm working on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRy8Dv0hXxT_osbAsS5vZvy7aax0BumzEyVBl-n0BLUPdBWJnXbg3JqTXbPriOoU-ZkkQ99zsLTXyMfJE-TwbEEL-ENVYlDiHfClU9gSwt9RE04bEc9uLkbS2IFNWJIW70fKK-Zw6RuGYR/s1600/DSC_0421.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRy8Dv0hXxT_osbAsS5vZvy7aax0BumzEyVBl-n0BLUPdBWJnXbg3JqTXbPriOoU-ZkkQ99zsLTXyMfJE-TwbEEL-ENVYlDiHfClU9gSwt9RE04bEc9uLkbS2IFNWJIW70fKK-Zw6RuGYR/s640/DSC_0421.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm knitting myself a blanket to bring to college next year. I knew I wanted a pretty big one so I measured a <u><a href="http://margotbluecat.blogspot.com/2014/06/this-is-but-beginning.html" target="_blank">blanket I sewed</a></u> a while ago because that was the approximate size that I wanted. I calculated the number of stitches I would need based on the gauge of the yarn, and eyeballed the number of skeins I would need. So far, I've used about two. I'll give you the full measurements and stitch details when I'm done! I'm knitting with the Ecological Wool from Cascade Yarn in Beige. So far it's been really nice to knit, although the more the blanket grows the heavier it is, but that comes with knitting any kind of bulky project.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Even before its completion the blanket has been cat-approved, and honestly, what more could you ask for?</div>

I'm really proud of him, I think he's one of the best stuffed animals I've made and through him I was able to really start creating a style that I like. I think I'm going to try and make the limbs a little chunkier next time though to add to the cuddle-factor, and perhaps use fake fur instead of fleece. But I figured that for a baby, fleece is just fine.<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hi!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have a little story to share. This summer, I worked on two knitting projects, both of them following a pattern. If you've been reading this blog for a while you'll know that I don't do well with patterns, and I don't like following them. So, after much trial and error, I decided to ditch one of the patterns I was working with - a cowl pattern - and write my own. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So here it is, the Penelope Cowl! My first ever successful knitting pattern.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy4vq5v6C4uiJUeWwQGpuJ_mc5q5mvx4St931X2QZDI507QzXAuSe29fcwT2nAZ_jfC53NxomIRRreYJXYuRbduUAqAWDRwjM3Zg3RyGVANVp9FFiS2J3-_K2u6EWuq8GMvfg6_d1xb0Wj/s1600/penelope1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy4vq5v6C4uiJUeWwQGpuJ_mc5q5mvx4St931X2QZDI507QzXAuSe29fcwT2nAZ_jfC53NxomIRRreYJXYuRbduUAqAWDRwjM3Zg3RyGVANVp9FFiS2J3-_K2u6EWuq8GMvfg6_d1xb0Wj/s640/penelope1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>Penelope Cowl</u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u><br /></u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
- Cast on 231 stitches in the round, place marker</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
- Border: *knit 3, purl 3* repeat to end of round </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
- Wheat stitch (a 4-row stitch): </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. <i>row 1</i> - purl 1. *knit 1, purl 1* repeat to end of round</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. <i>row 2</i> - knit 1, *purl 1, knit 1* repeat to end of round </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3.<i> row 3</i> - knit 1, *purl 1, knit 1* repeat to end of round</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4. <i>row 4</i> - purl 1, *knit 1, purl 1* repeat to end of round</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
- Wheat stitch for 11 inches or as long as desired</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
- Border: *knit 3, purl 3* repeat to end of round</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
- Cast off loosely </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Notes:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
- make sure your stitches aren't twisted when you cast on in the round</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
- keep track of your wheat stitch rows to ensure that you know where you are when you pause in your knitting (I recommend tally marks)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix5KR1B_JZ2AFlj8Z4lAVKjVn1_xMNvsuhV8JS4gKROk3Hsv9MB2QuMAyJa-0fyi-XamO1TlG_JxDdo7ydMeVxLsMQO8xz6JtpxDCTrV9ZnLHxIb26USLA-RDvoiwddY3XnhCzu-IpA0Fo/s1600/penelope2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix5KR1B_JZ2AFlj8Z4lAVKjVn1_xMNvsuhV8JS4gKROk3Hsv9MB2QuMAyJa-0fyi-XamO1TlG_JxDdo7ydMeVxLsMQO8xz6JtpxDCTrV9ZnLHxIb26USLA-RDvoiwddY3XnhCzu-IpA0Fo/s640/penelope2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I knit my cowl out of Purl Essence Everyday yarn in Oatmeal Heather, with 5mm circular needles. Despite being acrylic, it was really soft and easy to knit, and so far has done a very good job of keeping my neck warm. I would recommend not frowning down on acrylic yarn, but honestly, knit what your heart desires. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So here it is, I hope you like it! If you have any questions about the pattern or anything, feel free to leave a comment down below!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Also, a big thank you to my mom for taking pictures of me even though people were walking by. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
P.S. The story behind the name of the cowl is that while I was desperately trying to follow the pattern I had originally planned on making I would knit about three rows then take everything out and start all over again. This process lasted a good week and my project was dubbed Penelope, who would weave her tapestry during the day and take out all her stitches at night, of course not making any progress. </div>

<br />
The cheesy titles are back and I have no regrets.<br />
<br />
Before I start relating to you the enthralling tale of my success story, let me paint you a little picture. At the beginning of the summer, I was in a creative slump. Nothing I designed seemed to work, nothing I sewed fell into place (insert the too-small pair of shorts here) and I was just in a funk that I couldn't seem to get out of. It's like writer's block, when your words get all jumbled up and nothing sounds quite as it should.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I left for France in the beginning of July and began a super simple knitting pattern. It took me several tries to get the size right, but in the end, one of my more successful <u><a href="http://margotbluecat.blogspot.com/2015/08/dusty-pink.html" target="_blank">projects</a></u> fell from my needles. I then began designing something (it's a secret, you'll find out soon enough) and to my great surprise (and relief) it worked and it looked good! I had actually sat down and written out the design process as I was doing it too, so it was a proper project.<br />
<br />
When I got home, I knew I wanted to design a stuffed animal. I knew how I wanted it to look, and how I wanted it to feel. So I was a responsible designer and drew out pattern pieces, dug out some old denim from my closet and proceeded to create something that was absolutely not what I wanted.<br />
<br />
Back to the drawing board.<br />
This time, however, it worked.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGixJ4BI9QA4GH5weCIIYet5ZSqjAHuRgWbomtsT02CQWEKB1tgUt7ja7wTnVUXd0mwK9eUgOo-QnZaTnSjAJd_ashdaYJ6T6gSQQZWIcW3YUNfomfbP5OY07cPfo8Ac2IbN23Z98OpkEO/s1600/DSC_0340.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGixJ4BI9QA4GH5weCIIYet5ZSqjAHuRgWbomtsT02CQWEKB1tgUt7ja7wTnVUXd0mwK9eUgOo-QnZaTnSjAJd_ashdaYJ6T6gSQQZWIcW3YUNfomfbP5OY07cPfo8Ac2IbN23Z98OpkEO/s640/DSC_0340.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This is my bear. I made it all by myself, pattern and all, and I am pretty darn proud of the result.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_RWbACFyQnWIWzQN1Oss_Fxtk8VS8TBreNSXqkM2ejRWsTvqdcbfj0SemKE0k89wbdFU7XGOJKWt7Ec1jp5VX5n3c0jXiihcK-w87h-dsS0jmlm0MAphYZ1cHOujVnAE0KICzO8WfdUlh/s1600/DSC_0332.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_RWbACFyQnWIWzQN1Oss_Fxtk8VS8TBreNSXqkM2ejRWsTvqdcbfj0SemKE0k89wbdFU7XGOJKWt7Ec1jp5VX5n3c0jXiihcK-w87h-dsS0jmlm0MAphYZ1cHOujVnAE0KICzO8WfdUlh/s640/DSC_0332.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It started out as a sheep, but right now it's a bear. It also, surprisingly, doesn't have a name. Maybe I'll call him Philip.<br />
<br />
So Philip is the result of many hours of creator's block, a summer of chill knitting, and finally, proper designing procedures, and I am so proud of how he turned out. I love the lanky limbs and big feet and slightly floppy head. Figuring out what he should wear was easily the longest part of the process because conventional shirts and other items of clothing don't quite fit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix5cblKqh0QUTBT7BmGPcRV2aheLdmKAg_ukmhByQkv6h56PPHS8zx2KgL3pc1PkwIQmd_mH0jbk2OV8GYMli5ObJ_nymT14dF0kwsds4w-7aFSWYRGHq1j6cPcPNNd47H2oxzkgpyyJ88/s1600/DSC_0328.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix5cblKqh0QUTBT7BmGPcRV2aheLdmKAg_ukmhByQkv6h56PPHS8zx2KgL3pc1PkwIQmd_mH0jbk2OV8GYMli5ObJ_nymT14dF0kwsds4w-7aFSWYRGHq1j6cPcPNNd47H2oxzkgpyyJ88/s640/DSC_0328.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So that's the story of Philip the sheep-bear-thing that sits on my desk and watches me work while silently giving off good vibes. It's very difficult to take a picture of his entire body, but if I make another Philip (which I think I will) I will take clearer pictures.<br />
<br />
The moral of this story is, if you're in a creative slump, find a simple project with a simple pattern and watch a lot of episodes of Friends while making said project. It helps, I promise.<br />
<br />
On that note, have a nice week!Blue Cathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11407029285782272046noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9134769884725075764.post-67280656467346076172015-08-27T15:41:00.002-04:002015-08-27T15:41:51.996-04:00Dusty PinkI just really love the idea of dusty pink as a color, soft and warm but more subtle than in-your-face pink. <br />
This is a sweater that I made, and is in fact the first time I have ever knitted something with pink yarn. It is the Chatou sweater from La Droguerie. I tweaked the pattern a little (oh surprise), keeping it on the jersey side of the stitches, as opposed to the garter side as was indicated in the pattern. I also didn't use the yarn they said to use but it worked out okay.<br />

<br />
This is a very simple sweater, absolutely accessible for a beginner, it's essentially a lot of rectangles with a few increases and decreases for the arms, collar, and sleeves. I would definitely recommend this pattern if you know how to knit and want to take the plunge and knit your first sweater. The only potential problem may be the language but I think they do have translated patterns if you need it in english.<br />

I hope you all appreciate how much effort I put into modeling for these pictures because it was hot and humid and I was wearing a wool sweater of over 500 grams. I'd also like to thank my mom for taking pictures of me because taking outfit pictures is not an easy task when you're flying solo (and you left your tripod at home when you left for vacation) and you have no idea how to pose. </div>

This sweater marks the completion of my creativity requirement hours for my program (woo!) so that's a relief, but also it has only furthered my penchant for cozy sweaters (which are basically my winter uniform).<br />

<br />
We start with a pattern from a great little place called <a href="http://www.purlbee.com/" style="text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">Purlbee</a>, I so name the <u><a href="http://www.purlbee.com/2014/07/24/corinnes-thread-city-gym-shorts-for-all-ages/" target="_blank">City Gym Shorts</a></u>. Then we take cute flowery fabric and leftover chambray, as well as a lot of black bias tape and the remaining scraps of elastic buried at the back of the crafts closet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2-J-w-BZNigBfmuTwO3puwHSTogpMuumBoKfKdc_VfnEXamyOL1txb5AbydH9z0trt6jnffrq5WXbBOSHND3mGOwrgYtP5m06FWgOM1BWgbxJ3xW_NoEPovAB6RQkNi1KVsdrzS0nqAFR/s1600/shorts2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2-J-w-BZNigBfmuTwO3puwHSTogpMuumBoKfKdc_VfnEXamyOL1txb5AbydH9z0trt6jnffrq5WXbBOSHND3mGOwrgYtP5m06FWgOM1BWgbxJ3xW_NoEPovAB6RQkNi1KVsdrzS0nqAFR/s640/shorts2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And then we get a super easy to make pair of shorts that <i>of course </i>are too small.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEYBWMyPpmOV8JcJ3aWnERT0aJLke0Hp4md5LacaDvI5fZyCMhJmVF6cVYZDwmHoOQLNbT_ILzUexxV3CQBjT_8ZNKuqi6TMCckG2b7KB6dPnfASuZSXY9USNxDhpeMjT4S0SMZjteW1jx/s1600/shorts3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; display: inline !important; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEYBWMyPpmOV8JcJ3aWnERT0aJLke0Hp4md5LacaDvI5fZyCMhJmVF6cVYZDwmHoOQLNbT_ILzUexxV3CQBjT_8ZNKuqi6TMCckG2b7KB6dPnfASuZSXY9USNxDhpeMjT4S0SMZjteW1jx/s400/shorts3.jpg" width="265" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJCbt0B0X6wcRZmsW7MzHC1JIxW59b81shztuKhdVWhRdsyvdFg1T5SvJMg-dRcqu2bgWFDkZne5dLxy7YTJ_rscPQJP3XIQxApsGJ1ud5JSI4f0p8avbQrYSjapDhp9d6GgZafEM41kXG/s1600/shorts4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJCbt0B0X6wcRZmsW7MzHC1JIxW59b81shztuKhdVWhRdsyvdFg1T5SvJMg-dRcqu2bgWFDkZne5dLxy7YTJ_rscPQJP3XIQxApsGJ1ud5JSI4f0p8avbQrYSjapDhp9d6GgZafEM41kXG/s400/shorts4.jpg" width="265" /></a><br />
<br />
They're not ridiculously small, just small enough that I'm extremely frustrated. I've made a pair of these before and the size was perfect! I didn't change anything to the pattern except that I used chambray instead of linen for the back.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRO29N7pHc9pFC_cxBood0yWdUv2-f3zcNRePkWfc7sre26C7mkA9w-Gb-buey5NVniQKOwJb3fHx01L4KQ18BXO_i8yJMaROdMzQ7VwU4b5ErlBcAbT9OEBNPslzElD2Vn0VzB6Ql7S_X/s1600/shorts1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRO29N7pHc9pFC_cxBood0yWdUv2-f3zcNRePkWfc7sre26C7mkA9w-Gb-buey5NVniQKOwJb3fHx01L4KQ18BXO_i8yJMaROdMzQ7VwU4b5ErlBcAbT9OEBNPslzElD2Vn0VzB6Ql7S_X/s640/shorts1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I don't know what I did wrong, and it was only when I was done that I realized that the shorts did not fit as well as I had hoped. However, despite the sizing mishaps, it is one of the better-made pieces of clothing that I have ever sewn. The edge stitching on the bias is straighter than on anything I've made before, and the pattern is just overall very easy to follow, I highly recommend it (although I would recommend to pay attention to the size that you're making). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And because another part of the IB requirements (see previous post) also require 50 hours of creativity, making these shorts counted as part of my creative hours. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Time spent: 2h10</div>

<br />
As part of my exciting projects (as vaguely mentioned in previous posts) for this summer, I am going to be contributing to society in the small ways that I can.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXbgiQAnzl28AJmRFPYwwXLXsGnstDCm7gVJAdy9v554NbS3Re1tnrx03WV7vM4nhojTkDwmn3PBvwJVJr0iA9xwdxrflbhgCY9y1IYD8_ZA14eFCdL_9ktzL16brJd2lbWicduTd6Tgx3/s1600/pillowcases+margot.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXbgiQAnzl28AJmRFPYwwXLXsGnstDCm7gVJAdy9v554NbS3Re1tnrx03WV7vM4nhojTkDwmn3PBvwJVJr0iA9xwdxrflbhgCY9y1IYD8_ZA14eFCdL_9ktzL16brJd2lbWicduTd6Tgx3/s640/pillowcases+margot.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I found a brochure a while ago as I was fabric shopping that was called <a href="http://www.conkerrcancer.org/" target="_blank">ConKerr Cancer</a>. Conkerr Cancer is a foundation that collects handmade pillowcases or supplies to make pillowcases to donate to kids with cancer in hospitals. I picked up the brochure and a few months later my lovely mother picked up some fabric to make them. I'm a part of the International Baccalaureate program at school, and as part of the requirements for the diploma I have to complete 50 hours of community service. As part (not all) of those 50 hours, I chose to make these pillowcases. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw1Rx-97IO2yY18guaojQ0P8SzqFIJHeY_5T27b_y2MypbyLrgLzG2KkUMMC-umEhtMQkkqmJgqVp4OY3VBJZ7j7Zop_zPLjuPbWoJn_W-X1ELNvoAcb3dh51Ee8Iadoa81XwVNolgAhzp/s1600/pillowcase+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw1Rx-97IO2yY18guaojQ0P8SzqFIJHeY_5T27b_y2MypbyLrgLzG2KkUMMC-umEhtMQkkqmJgqVp4OY3VBJZ7j7Zop_zPLjuPbWoJn_W-X1ELNvoAcb3dh51Ee8Iadoa81XwVNolgAhzp/s640/pillowcase+5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have to record the process of making them, so here are a few pictures that I took along the way.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdx27YPXJSDj0kaZ9FBQ6ud9JfRtet94VGT_kI3QV8H233tsBOFF-aZWvuzIWbo3Fkt0zkoEHXYTHXRrrWlcvwEv2gJccYjsmXMhr-Rn21gqXR-0Yn1hZRPAhlgHzHYlaEBnYPkgRVPKq6/s1600/pillowcases+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdx27YPXJSDj0kaZ9FBQ6ud9JfRtet94VGT_kI3QV8H233tsBOFF-aZWvuzIWbo3Fkt0zkoEHXYTHXRrrWlcvwEv2gJccYjsmXMhr-Rn21gqXR-0Yn1hZRPAhlgHzHYlaEBnYPkgRVPKq6/s640/pillowcases+4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Because it's me, I of course sewed the border wrong on the body of the monkey pillowcase but other than that it went pretty smoothly.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I still haven't quite decided on how many I want to make, but I think 10 might be my goal for this summer.</div>

<br />
I'm finally on vacation for the summer, which should mean that I will have more time to make things and share them here with you.<br />
<br />
Over the course of the last few weeks as the weather has started getting nicer, I've developed a new love for plants. I currently have four in my room, and despite my lack of green thumb none of them have died so I must be doing something right.<br />
<br />
Earlier this weekend I only had two but the herbs I was growing in the kitchen were starting to outgrow their tiny container so I went out and got two new little terra cotta pots and painted them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmP3EgURHVr4RlC-nKLzxKUf9NKs0J_pmHKsNMIo0xb5CI4V1hnDlFf33dw6cLUv2IQEfvtRiSPryI2HR-e3SQyYfhzdcOC56bXjaLypcXCXZcTEqCTAHCaOtWKhal1mN4nql1QQqRGU8Q/s1600/unnamed-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmP3EgURHVr4RlC-nKLzxKUf9NKs0J_pmHKsNMIo0xb5CI4V1hnDlFf33dw6cLUv2IQEfvtRiSPryI2HR-e3SQyYfhzdcOC56bXjaLypcXCXZcTEqCTAHCaOtWKhal1mN4nql1QQqRGU8Q/s400/unnamed-2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I put my herbs in the pink one and a succulent that my mom received as a gift in the green one (she kindly donated the succulent to my little sprout collection). The plant in the back is a peace lily that has not grown at all in the two weeks I've had it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKGfvN2VeK0WgcK-_GkmKmhOyLC8HsMZbEw7c8vgY3fWVL8EfJijR2lowv6Gnnl00epor7o7UEB-kImOaVcKY3W-B3DMnd28waE8WKZ5pwbqnPIrmSma_kyAIr53yjPSo4D9HBkwzBdqV2/s1600/unnamed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKGfvN2VeK0WgcK-_GkmKmhOyLC8HsMZbEw7c8vgY3fWVL8EfJijR2lowv6Gnnl00epor7o7UEB-kImOaVcKY3W-B3DMnd28waE8WKZ5pwbqnPIrmSma_kyAIr53yjPSo4D9HBkwzBdqV2/s400/unnamed.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Using acrylic paint, I painted both pots white. I had to do several coats of paint because the terra cotta kept absorbing the color, but the paint dried quickly so it wasn't really a problem. Then I used the brighter colors to paint the rim and, using a Q-tip, the polka dots. Now, at this point, I should probably (definitely) have waited longer before putting on Mod-Podge to varnish the pots but I only waited the amount of time it took to paint the dishes underneath the pots. Apparently that's why the Mod-Podge made little bubbles on the paint. Honestly it doesn't really matter to me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWGOuDn964W64MzvfnakMFTARIK-Tv2R6cTucSg90_-InhbRtdyoHKYIaMkiphaqaqKhhCsfnNbPd6RM2abAjjovWT92Ca-LkZuXPbRLu_6HWmAgTb0IbMrMp_Wl8TfvW_Vf7agE23KnaM/s1600/unnamed-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWGOuDn964W64MzvfnakMFTARIK-Tv2R6cTucSg90_-InhbRtdyoHKYIaMkiphaqaqKhhCsfnNbPd6RM2abAjjovWT92Ca-LkZuXPbRLu_6HWmAgTb0IbMrMp_Wl8TfvW_Vf7agE23KnaM/s400/unnamed-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I semi-successfully repotted the herbs and the succulent and as of right now they seem to be doing okay. I've been putting them on the windowsill of my room during the day and on my dresser at night but honestly I have no clue what I'm doing. If anyone has any suggestions on plant care feel free to expand my knowledge in the comments.</div>

<br /></div>
<div>
One of my best friend's grandmother passed away yesterday and it's been a difficult time for her and her family. I know people usually send food as condolences, but I figured that this might cheer her up a little more than a casserole. It's a patch, hand-embroidered with her nickname onto linen and felt. I put it in an envelope and will post it tomorrow because I don't know when I'll see her next and I know that, personally, receiving mail always brightens my day so I thought it was worth it to try and brighten hers. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Often times, the little things mean a lot more than we think they do. This took me under an hour, and hopefully will bring a smile to her face. I always try to keep that in mind, that things that don't seem big to us may mean the world to someone else. (I'm not saying this gift will cure her grief, I'm just hoping it brings her a little joy.) </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Have a nice week and give your loved ones a hug.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
P.S. I have some exciting sewing things lined up for this summer, so get pumped. Maybe not too pumped, maybe just moderately looking forward to seeing more life on this blog! </div>

<br />
I got a knitting kit for Christmas, a cowl called the Lucy Cowl (hence my brilliant post title) and I just finished it yesterday thanks to a snow day.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZfW7f63vJ1pJ-yd9Jgus2znMA9_LstfphG6S_SgS2fDkC0tE07NiduEiDa3PotbseeYBaQmQuOrEiw2xVgY6g0Ke5RFDfFHaw1W14TrVrlYT0HXmXuVpH9obQATHRj6i5LbSlyUNdqc0R/s1600/unnamed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZfW7f63vJ1pJ-yd9Jgus2znMA9_LstfphG6S_SgS2fDkC0tE07NiduEiDa3PotbseeYBaQmQuOrEiw2xVgY6g0Ke5RFDfFHaw1W14TrVrlYT0HXmXuVpH9obQATHRj6i5LbSlyUNdqc0R/s1600/unnamed.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I first got the kit, I was a little concerned at how small the skeins were (they were so cute and small, they all fit on a binder ring) and then when I saw that the instructions fit on a tiny circle piece of paper I was even more concerned. But for once I did follow the instructions to a T and it worked! You heard it here first folks, sometimes the instructions aren't wrong.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I love it so much, it was very easy to make, all in the round for added thickness and warmth, and super colorful. The yarn is gorgeous squishy cashmere (my first time knitting cashmere and I loved it) in 8 different colors. They all look really good together, but I followed the picture from the website to get the same order because I didn't trust myself to make one up.</div>

The best part is, you too can make the Lucy (in the sky with diamonds, I'm really funny) Cowl by clicking <u><a href="http://www.loopyarn.com/collections/kits/products/lucy-cowl-kit" target="_blank">here</a></u> and ordering it! I have the color scheme Urbanite (I think) but there are four color schemes to chose from. </div>

<br />
Now, before I start, can I just say that I know that Christmas is not all about presents and all that, it's about family and happiness and yes I know that. But that is precisely why I just spent the last three weeks making a lot of things for my friends and family. I'm just going to show you what I made for my friends because I'm pretty sure that they don't check this blog.<br />

Up next, a present I made for a Secret Santa I'm going to tomorrow. I made a batch of cookies (and ate approximately half) then put as many as I could in a cardboard cylinder that is supposed to be used for shipping paper things. I lined the inside with aluminum and put the cookies in it. Cookies, cardboard and a Sharpie snowman: easiest Secret Santa gift ever.</div>

<br />
Hello!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI1nTNg_thHsCVaasitLmGR6xFo_70EqiKfMYDIvAix3tidiDCidjFiC_-oN6ZeYeVfiyU8j92mnXZHA9xn_Wn2o8WhRBFVHZrROdcZ9n3XISUCVxBxJi5Sa8m_X8kFoX7S5NTqiTLhP4g/s1600/DSC_0776.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI1nTNg_thHsCVaasitLmGR6xFo_70EqiKfMYDIvAix3tidiDCidjFiC_-oN6ZeYeVfiyU8j92mnXZHA9xn_Wn2o8WhRBFVHZrROdcZ9n3XISUCVxBxJi5Sa8m_X8kFoX7S5NTqiTLhP4g/s1600/DSC_0776.JPG" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Last night I made this little guy. Instead of making an order that I have to ship by Friday, I decided to make an order that I have until Christmas to make. I'm really good at prioritizing. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiklVDvKfX06FpeQsnG-ulm4McppJG0dVzFtMP6ViGjjX7k2EkjLBrIIDcxQ9PDRs64x0oOg5sHXQQEDnREaJ4WuNrTIgoky7DZ0JdCjHw6Y3E18tGWuroTORXKU-7Qa5SZf3-2H69M69GY/s1600/DSC_0777.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiklVDvKfX06FpeQsnG-ulm4McppJG0dVzFtMP6ViGjjX7k2EkjLBrIIDcxQ9PDRs64x0oOg5sHXQQEDnREaJ4WuNrTIgoky7DZ0JdCjHw6Y3E18tGWuroTORXKU-7Qa5SZf3-2H69M69GY/s1600/DSC_0777.JPG" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To be fair, how could I resist the prospect of making a little guy like this? My only guidelines were "My daughter likes foxes and I want to give her one for Christmas." </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This pattern follows one I made this summer, expect that one was a sheep, so I had to make a few alterations. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Super simple, just a fleece back, ears and tail, as well as a cotton belly and inside of the ears. A few white and brown details, a good movie, and there you have it, an adorable little fox.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here you can see the cotton I used, isn't it cute? I bought it a while ago cause it was too adorable to pass up, but I didn't know what to do with it until now. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I want to keep him for myself. </div>

Have a great end of weekend, and tomorrow is December woo!!!</div>

<br />
Do you all remember <u><a href="http://margotbluecat.blogspot.com/2013/12/renewed-wardrobe-step-01.html" target="_blank">this cardigan</a></u>? I started it in December last year, kind of dropped it for a few months because I messed up the back, and picked it up once more this summer with the expert help of my grandmother.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWE23O7EKc9rkf2cvP2P16vmzPyyQHOOcjnKKaTtHxc3oGf2dHWcyLxR-b5YewDRr-16i0R_kjuYmESzpHJjXEtM1SKjdjD04CX5DSn3Dbk9aausROp_wjOkHcbcMDV7YSUVvbncVTOV_a/s1600/unnamed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWE23O7EKc9rkf2cvP2P16vmzPyyQHOOcjnKKaTtHxc3oGf2dHWcyLxR-b5YewDRr-16i0R_kjuYmESzpHJjXEtM1SKjdjD04CX5DSn3Dbk9aausROp_wjOkHcbcMDV7YSUVvbncVTOV_a/s1600/unnamed.jpg" height="618" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It is complete.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Today was Daylight Savings and so with my extra hour I did homework. I'm kidding of course, I sewed the remaining sleeve onto the already completely sewn sweater. I ran out of yarn when I was in France and was only able to finish it earlier this month, but my grandmother had sewn the rest of it this summer. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Other than that, yesterday, my dad and I went into the city and although we went with the goal of thrifting, we mostly wandered through expensive independent shops filled with things we wished we needed. <br />

I'd say this was a good start to November.</div>

Have a great week and stay warm, cause I don't know about you, but we're definitely starting to feel the cold around here. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is Garfunkel.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He is my new buddy. </div>
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8bgY3zrHlDHFbfxfc4SWvRaBxviYrn9xrXmRfv3U65qg8Z2_K3bMO5RL1GC9g1kAiW7LBPCplZhbyS0tJx0gxzL5TQHMlZzecMWWOjEWRV2rABCcKoVsxr6yWV2nhDYKV6drRqBTP0PWP/s1600/bunny2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8bgY3zrHlDHFbfxfc4SWvRaBxviYrn9xrXmRfv3U65qg8Z2_K3bMO5RL1GC9g1kAiW7LBPCplZhbyS0tJx0gxzL5TQHMlZzecMWWOjEWRV2rABCcKoVsxr6yWV2nhDYKV6drRqBTP0PWP/s1600/bunny2.jpg" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was feeling very stressed and overwhelmed the other day, and in my mind, making a bunny was the only way I was going to relieve that stress. So I blew up the pattern I usually use for bunnies, got the proportions all wrong, and made Garfunkel in about four hours. </div>

He is made of fake fur that is amazingly soft and fluffy that I got this summer in Normandie. The ears are made with scraps of fabric that I had, and the scarf is made from some of my many yarn scraps. He is a very organic and adorable companion. I call him my stress-relief bunny. </div>

As for his name, whenever I need to think of a name for a stuffed animal, I think "Simon". I don't know why, but it has resulted in my having a lot of bunnies named Simon. So I thought, what goes with Simon? The obvious answer is Garfunkel. So there you go.</div>

<br />
I'm going to start off by saying that I really should either be studying for a history quiz or writing a biology lab report right now. Instead I'm going to write this post because I'm really excited about it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQWrVV48W8lVoSDYEZGIghsyHBX5JnA4ietog80SxdB_Ta4uUJlz_Q2Ls2IVQcbLyQcSiAlYJh5FfSSF07oqLSWrEh76nsMFrgRp-bvUirrIDrgNMqy4vRCfIwZ2O-PZvePaP7lqdrAQOB/s1600/skirt4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQWrVV48W8lVoSDYEZGIghsyHBX5JnA4ietog80SxdB_Ta4uUJlz_Q2Ls2IVQcbLyQcSiAlYJh5FfSSF07oqLSWrEh76nsMFrgRp-bvUirrIDrgNMqy4vRCfIwZ2O-PZvePaP7lqdrAQOB/s1600/skirt4.jpg" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made a skirt yesterday. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wanted to test drive my machine, and I've been wanting to make a skirt for a while now, so this was the ideal project. Also, I've been trying to keep my Saturdays sacred and homework free for as long as I can, so I was able to block off the whole day to do this. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf2JQm4WWouHeeF5c9vaS3G1UGLibv3dljwCJ5nxi5MxS-PoCSFaFOYSRxc_blmX_uVdJ1x8QgbJQ9twJ9IuuodUAN6ISBzyTUX9NVpLaRyXl2S6mSJnD0k7SEXalvkdihfnuaM-hnRR5j/s1600/skirt6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf2JQm4WWouHeeF5c9vaS3G1UGLibv3dljwCJ5nxi5MxS-PoCSFaFOYSRxc_blmX_uVdJ1x8QgbJQ9twJ9IuuodUAN6ISBzyTUX9NVpLaRyXl2S6mSJnD0k7SEXalvkdihfnuaM-hnRR5j/s1600/skirt6.jpg" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I went into town yesterday morning with the intention of just getting fabric and to use a pattern I had found online, but as I walked into the shop I found a pattern that was exactly what I was looking for. So I got it, as well as some adorable fabric with carousel horses on it. I did wonder for a little bit if I would be able to pull off a skirt with horses on it, and I decided that yes, yes I would be able to. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhse7O5HVXtvIuRNIWjwj-DF-Qnbhe3B2CeL8O_ZJIgCbvVriIj-7EggumKWKkS0udi8Fb02dYp5DLqKtFoSjOk6MCI0Kws4vScge7au2k_pu3nGSO3lX_tI6Nj30RpUeBuCie0zptz20WR/s1600/skirt5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhse7O5HVXtvIuRNIWjwj-DF-Qnbhe3B2CeL8O_ZJIgCbvVriIj-7EggumKWKkS0udi8Fb02dYp5DLqKtFoSjOk6MCI0Kws4vScge7au2k_pu3nGSO3lX_tI6Nj30RpUeBuCie0zptz20WR/s1600/skirt5.jpg" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I spent a solid five hours working on this yesterday, occasionally yelling at my machine because the thread wouldn't stay in the needle (I'll have to figure out why at some point). Overall, the process went smoothly, but I did have issues with the waistband, which wasn't quite as long as the skirt waist. I gathered it a little bit at the back and it worked out well. I also had issues with the zipper, which is weird because I'm usually pretty good with zippers. But it wouldn't be a Blue Cat project if something didn't go wrong. I also burned my hand on the iron as I was ironing. Don't do that kids, it hurts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbgg6i7n9dKmvhhXUvAFwJwfZWmrtcuQ_p2gd-8GGUTW-ShPFWSaXiHaRL8p5iLP5UTnm9zNPLVYaMPJJ8PB_cHs4EA7Y0WOyeH5y3lQhxrbOFUnz_x6oSDb5deQPGPzr7TQKibwA0Uz4c/s1600/skirt2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbgg6i7n9dKmvhhXUvAFwJwfZWmrtcuQ_p2gd-8GGUTW-ShPFWSaXiHaRL8p5iLP5UTnm9zNPLVYaMPJJ8PB_cHs4EA7Y0WOyeH5y3lQhxrbOFUnz_x6oSDb5deQPGPzr7TQKibwA0Uz4c/s1600/skirt2.jpg" height="640" width="606" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There you have it, one of my most successful projects to date, I would say. The size is right, the pattern is very cute and the skirt is what I wanted. I'm not sure what to wear it with though, but I'm going thrifting next weekend so I'll try and find something.</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You also get photo proof that sometimes I do go outside. Especially today, because the fall weather is absolutely gorgeous.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have a great week!</div>

P.S. To anyone who wants to make this skirt, I used the Sewaholic pattern 1206, view C (the shortest one). </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
She is a Viking from Husquvarna, and although I've only had time to try her out a tiny little bit, I love her. She's much nicer to me than my mom's machine is. The stitches run smooth and neat and she makes a wonderful sewing machine sound. It took me a while to figure out the bobbin, but that's because the newbie in this situation is me, not the machine. The machine is already very good at sewing while I'm still figuring things out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm so excited, I already have a few projects in mind that I'm just itching to try. </div>

Sorry for the dark pictures, it's getting darker earlier now (the sun sets at 6:30 now and I'm just about ready to enter full hibernation mode). You should probably get very excited about the numerous anecdotes that are sure to come along with this new machine sewing adventure I've just set myself on.</div>

<br />
So, I'll just be straight with you. The only thing I have made in the last two weeks is a bunny and his scarf isn't finished so I don't have a picture for you. I was going to sew a bunny this afternoon, but instead I cleaned my room, which turned out to be a much better idea. I did work on my Book of Inspiration and Happy Thoughts a little bit, I added pictures and several lists, which brings me nicely to my next topic.<br />
<br />
Lists.<br />
<br />
If you've been keeping up with me for a while (in which case hello, thank you for your loyalty and continued interest) you will know that I love lists. I love making them, and I love reading lists that other people have made. I have lists of everything: lists of things to do that day, to do in the future, of books to read and books I've read, of music, of movies, of countries I want to visit.<br />
<br />
However, it has come to my attention that making lists is definitely my most pronounced form of procrastination. Sure, I have several methods of procrastinating things, I'll go on YouTube or Tumblr for a while (several hours), I'll eat, I'll clean my room, I'll cuddle my cat... The list goes on. However, what I do when I most want to fight off actually doing things is that I will make a list of things that I should be doing. It motivates me to a certain extent because I have a moment of realization where I tell myself "This list is getting too long to justify writing it". So I get up and do things. Other times, and this happens a lot, I write the same list many times. Sometimes in a different order, sometimes copied basically word for word. It's a huge problem and I'm working on doing rather than listing.<br />
<br />
I'm telling you all this because I started this post thinking "I'll just write a list of upcoming projects" and then I realized that I never abide by my lists anyway, so I wrote a whole spiel based on that thought instead.<br />
<br />
I did have a creative funnel this week though, because I planned my birthday party. I made invitations a few weeks ago to send by mail. I love getting and sending mail, so I thought, why not? Then I planned the menu (and made part of it) and some of the minimal decoration. Let me tell you, stringing up twinkle lights on our back porch is one of the best decisions I've ever made. They look beautiful. I'm hoping my parents will forget to take them down. The only decoration thing I got a picture of were the candles in the Mason jars which were largely inspired by Tumblr but looked really adorable.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWKYwNsLNScCIT12evxBsCBmoh8xCqoFr-Trwa84OqbBT0CeNGczpIkUdymwIVXaULenZC50BmoQfAfMFtQNFoADOvav08TDOtqQVJ8y4wwUV3tBsSuPI0RGaEyWd9k6oJJ_7rRkgiEY1C/s1600/10515097_715951361827832_6942971006757795197_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWKYwNsLNScCIT12evxBsCBmoh8xCqoFr-Trwa84OqbBT0CeNGczpIkUdymwIVXaULenZC50BmoQfAfMFtQNFoADOvav08TDOtqQVJ8y4wwUV3tBsSuPI0RGaEyWd9k6oJJ_7rRkgiEY1C/s1600/10515097_715951361827832_6942971006757795197_o.jpg" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On that note, I hope you have a great week and that I will have a more interesting post next time!</div>
<br />Blue Cathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11407029285782272046noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9134769884725075764.post-78053366709171164082014-09-21T14:59:00.002-04:002014-09-21T14:59:35.435-04:00My BookHello!<br />
<br />
The school year is now officially underway, which of course means that my brain is just about bubbling with equations and monomers and the Civil War and the present tense of Spanish verbs. I have never really been overwhelmed by school, because I genuinely like learning and gaining new knowledge. However, this year, we are three weeks in and there are days where I feel like I'm drowning in school-work, which is never good. So, last week, I decided to start a new, on-going project that would have no deadline and would serve no purpose other than to distract me from school and to give me an accessible creative outlet for the days where it all gets to be too much.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixN1p2bGs5AujRU6APPR3ARh1KOuNuxYG82gf2_vXycwmyPoLHYlZu432_QNgLZkZHOFqkTlyV_SFElpIS606Q9DsVi9ULOiBecR6cO2KgwJHvst3ywuiGKBckG4Vp0SkdWLoCgzU0noO1/s1600/journal4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixN1p2bGs5AujRU6APPR3ARh1KOuNuxYG82gf2_vXycwmyPoLHYlZu432_QNgLZkZHOFqkTlyV_SFElpIS606Q9DsVi9ULOiBecR6cO2KgwJHvst3ywuiGKBckG4Vp0SkdWLoCgzU0noO1/s1600/journal4.jpg" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is My Book, or My Book of Inspiration and Happy Thoughts. Basically, it's going to be a compilation of things that make me happy. For the outside cover, I took pages from a book of poetry I bought for $0.75 at the library (if you ever need books for a project, hit up your library they always have books for sale for really, really cheap) and used Mod Podge to glue them to the book's front and back cover. There are a few air bubbles, but really it isn't that bad and the Mod Podge also acts as a varnish so it's all nice and polished. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I found a bunch of pictures that I've liked over the last few months on Tumblr, printed them out and made a collage across the two first few pages.They're pretty and they make me happy, so they fit. Over time I think I'll also add pictures of myself, my friends and family. I'm also going to have poems and quotes written in. The page after this one has the list of my recent music obsession, which I will link you at the end of this. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you want a fun, stress-relieving project, I suggest this. It was inspired by my journal for art class (yes, I'm finally taking an art class and it's amazing). You can get an 8.5x11 notebook at a local arts and crafts store for about $10 and everything else is either printed or thrifted, so it really doesn't cost much. The best part is that there are no rules and no deadline, it's basically a visual brain dump. It's a lot of fun. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope you have a great week!</div>

<br />
How have you all been this summer?<br />
<br />
I know I was gone away for a (really really) long time, but now I'm back and the good news is that I have had time to make a lot of cool things that I'm super excited to share with you guys.<br />
<br />
The first is a huge project that I gave myself a stupidly short amount of time to do, but as it was a gift for a (relatively) newborn baby, I had a deadline.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6Ludzy7Xi0tLpu5Lq3Cz87mggWuHRNGxBxxILjozhCS-yTxlY3jrrkAHmkP-KTEAUy09E32bZ09Pj_jnyWnbwjF6O6Ul3347CutYmL49Lo35THASa6iqA7ssd8HRraX_H_RQgz1bMAWbH/s1600/DSC_0238.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6Ludzy7Xi0tLpu5Lq3Cz87mggWuHRNGxBxxILjozhCS-yTxlY3jrrkAHmkP-KTEAUy09E32bZ09Pj_jnyWnbwjF6O6Ul3347CutYmL49Lo35THASa6iqA7ssd8HRraX_H_RQgz1bMAWbH/s1600/DSC_0238.JPG" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made a whole baby quilt. In about two weeks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I didn't think it would be such a huge project (because I'm naive and also because I've never made a quilt before) but boy was I wrong. Wow, this was such a huge thing to get through.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTC2Nw2-fSzC8QWVcMySRog8uUzhJSflGr8alR5VKbZSxFpd9g0ou4ps2AGHNEhAc18p2cpvs-xYc3xuLGWUTpELxXMaVFoqGLEW_jI_A6EsmopPsGLf7yt7rlXsU6x8O8NIuVYe-gyjl9/s1600/DSC_0244.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTC2Nw2-fSzC8QWVcMySRog8uUzhJSflGr8alR5VKbZSxFpd9g0ou4ps2AGHNEhAc18p2cpvs-xYc3xuLGWUTpELxXMaVFoqGLEW_jI_A6EsmopPsGLf7yt7rlXsU6x8O8NIuVYe-gyjl9/s1600/DSC_0244.JPG" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEZN7-ZPNFliOq_J_bUWfCp2Oju6Z7TpUCW6rfPjaR6cKUbfAuH6eHTkhwT6FuI8mkm7wQHabaXjYmGVWzale6G_Ge7KYm50nE8kKobY-4CZe05kAYGIj9oTWDGWbb_t4KigI4tmZgbAh9/s1600/DSC_0247.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEZN7-ZPNFliOq_J_bUWfCp2Oju6Z7TpUCW6rfPjaR6cKUbfAuH6eHTkhwT6FuI8mkm7wQHabaXjYmGVWzale6G_Ge7KYm50nE8kKobY-4CZe05kAYGIj9oTWDGWbb_t4KigI4tmZgbAh9/s1600/DSC_0247.JPG" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Picking the fabric is obviously the first step and being the unorganized sewer that I am, I only had a vague idea of what I wanted. I knew it was going to be for a girl, so I thought "pink", but then I thought "I don't want to indulge the stereotypes that all presents for girls must be pink, so maybe gray" and then I realized that pink and gray is one of my favorite color combinations and hey, there you go, that's my color scheme. Then my mom and I started looking for fabric, which was a challenge in itself because it's surprisingly difficult to find gray fabric that is cute enough for a baby and pinks that are all in the same tone. Then we found elephants and I was sold, so the official theme for this blanket is pink, gray and elephants.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvGPbkUwykN3X9UxuF5HL8RIVbXIVwTFf3sifpu5KFB376Ve8JX7Q3JPrOulQ7JL6IrdrhGYodtl9eROe7AFcdCOsXXhPCSqOcAOoFVQnIDKgpvgIbHaJUmMyYxiVuzqsGPZoILha86SWg/s1600/DSC_0240.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvGPbkUwykN3X9UxuF5HL8RIVbXIVwTFf3sifpu5KFB376Ve8JX7Q3JPrOulQ7JL6IrdrhGYodtl9eROe7AFcdCOsXXhPCSqOcAOoFVQnIDKgpvgIbHaJUmMyYxiVuzqsGPZoILha86SWg/s1600/DSC_0240.JPG" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The actual sewing process was not hard so much as time consuming, it's all straight lines but when you have a quilt that's going to be nine squares by eleven, it takes a while. I'm still amazed I didn't mess up in the pattern. I actually based it off a quilt my mom made me when I was a baby. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi74KbOIPAYT_XwGqMOUkp7RZP9Oywng0v-s19QigLf1wShiLmV0F4S_9ULWRYDtDNJAPAi-QQMxRA9W2ZLRprujFFVzjCYe5mYuec3N1YNQPxqUgaX3RFJP_yhbpLG0B4C8BT4arGozLSy/s1600/DSC_0246.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi74KbOIPAYT_XwGqMOUkp7RZP9Oywng0v-s19QigLf1wShiLmV0F4S_9ULWRYDtDNJAPAi-QQMxRA9W2ZLRprujFFVzjCYe5mYuec3N1YNQPxqUgaX3RFJP_yhbpLG0B4C8BT4arGozLSy/s1600/DSC_0246.JPG" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The batting was a battle, which I won, but it was all twisted and pulled and didn't fall into place correctly, but the mistake isn't visible so how much of a mistake is it really?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH7y0he-WrnN1hQy0ncjh5I8rmy-DrcWO3nCdH6tpJNeO5IQRFzsV-eYNbvDbjsI_60SZYtRzshnZ3Ue5bxtvmXszI1IEJdq8hUYye0tJpnwrhmVUq_bQOfjVCaxR1mIVGjFDdJe6Q7v-r/s1600/DSC_0250.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH7y0he-WrnN1hQy0ncjh5I8rmy-DrcWO3nCdH6tpJNeO5IQRFzsV-eYNbvDbjsI_60SZYtRzshnZ3Ue5bxtvmXszI1IEJdq8hUYye0tJpnwrhmVUq_bQOfjVCaxR1mIVGjFDdJe6Q7v-r/s1600/DSC_0250.JPG" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So it turned out kind of massive, and I can't really say the process went smoothly because I did spend a while pulling out stitches and then sewing things back up, but the result was, if I do say so myself, quite nice. I'm very proud of it, but I'm not sure I'll be making another quilt anytime soon. I'd never made one and I wanted to, now I have and I'm good. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhajtuccCr3ZzLe3VzftkgmBA_gK9b19pS1NpeKlplZPrqv1V3bybWyM8_ZgSKmIuz5sfX1K25dU131FqZ03nJOLrhq2-O_EsO1_UdkMG1T88AtvMngicXgqRWD_D9BzhV68CGNiirKSLhJ/s1600/DSC_0494.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhajtuccCr3ZzLe3VzftkgmBA_gK9b19pS1NpeKlplZPrqv1V3bybWyM8_ZgSKmIuz5sfX1K25dU131FqZ03nJOLrhq2-O_EsO1_UdkMG1T88AtvMngicXgqRWD_D9BzhV68CGNiirKSLhJ/s1600/DSC_0494.JPG" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What really matters is that the gift was well-received (which it was) and that it will be put to good use (as you can see by this little cutie, it already has!). I'd say she's pretty happy with it, wouldn't you?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hope you all had a fantastic summer and I look forward to sharing more projects with you this year!</div>

<br />
This summer my goal is to re-decorate and redesign my room. I've lost count of how many times I've planned to do that over the years, but this time the wheels are already set in motion, so I know for sure that some re-decoration will be occurring, and has in fact already begun to occur.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I went fabric shopping on Friday, which was my long-awaited self-reward for passing my chemistry class. I had projects in mind, just not really fabrics or colors. My general strategy for fabric shopping usually consists of walking in and finding a pattern or color that I like and going from that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In this case, for the pillowcases, I found the flowers first and the polka-dots second. They went really well together, so I just switched the body and the header fabric for both, so one flower with a polka-dotted end and one polka-dot with a flowered end. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihn80SlWJ5GDLDHVUxgPGtHKMPsb8ev9CEbgifxWCvc1jtLZX7zgcZB6lg9_R8qgMSS2r8SYHSkhCzh4Xi9pAWD-4rFzlak3Bxsxt9OE6amZST_I_dkEAyYjRI85jIL2rUNLnke5aiRhfG/s1600/room6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihn80SlWJ5GDLDHVUxgPGtHKMPsb8ev9CEbgifxWCvc1jtLZX7zgcZB6lg9_R8qgMSS2r8SYHSkhCzh4Xi9pAWD-4rFzlak3Bxsxt9OE6amZST_I_dkEAyYjRI85jIL2rUNLnke5aiRhfG/s1600/room6.jpg" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For those of you wondering, <u><a href="http://margotbluecat.blogspot.com/2013/06/dinosaurs.html" target="_blank">the adorable dinosaur pillowcase I made last year</a></u> tragically ripped and can no longer be used. I did keep the fabric though because it's so cute. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So yes, super simple pillowcases. Next and more importantly, I made a huge blanket. </div>

<br />
So this blanket has been on my list of projects to do for a while. It's basically two squares of fabric sewn together, one dark gray fleece and one flowered cotton. Of course, it wasn't that simple to make. The cotton is sold in a thinner width than the fleece so I had to get twice as much of the cotton and piece it together to match the back. Then pinning it was a struggle, a situation that my cats tried to rectify by falling asleep on the fabric. However, the actual sewing was very easy. Straight lines, leaving an opening on one side to turn it right side out and then hand sewing that part shut.<br />
<br />

<br />
Yes it is that time of year again, the time where instead of craving Nutella and hot chocolate, I crave smoothies and watermelon. Both of which are significantly healthier, I think you'll agree.<br />
<br />
Now when I get home from school, my automatic reflex is to grab the blender, a banana, some frozen strawberries and whatever else I can find that would taste good and make a smoothie. On good days, it takes approximately 2.5 minutes. On bad days (the running into things and tripping over flat surfaces kind of days, you know what I'm talking about) it can take up to 10 minutes cause I forget that yogurt does not make a smoothie liquid enough to be blendable.<br />
<br />
Today was a good day.<br />
<br />
And today I somehow made a vegan smoothie, which turned out to be the best I've ever made, so I decided to share the recipe with all you good people.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV0sxDvVlLdu7-rz33KAkfVedzNFlNfV3GrDD5ijtAmVlpt8UTizjorhyCDqq6nVnKz62A48pe2Ym2DqqFqnVOmPxo-506sHK8wH-1KcUbGYquKymWb7byFTp0zoI0kr95ooLkQFWSTqob/s1600/photo+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV0sxDvVlLdu7-rz33KAkfVedzNFlNfV3GrDD5ijtAmVlpt8UTizjorhyCDqq6nVnKz62A48pe2Ym2DqqFqnVOmPxo-506sHK8wH-1KcUbGYquKymWb7byFTp0zoI0kr95ooLkQFWSTqob/s1600/photo+2.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I apologize for the phone picture.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are my super accurate fool proof instructions on how to make the most perfect watermelon strawberry banana smoothie.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1. Grab blender. Do not forget to plug it in.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2. Grab watermelon. The kind that is sort of mushy and gross that no one wants to eat works very well. Make a fist. Add the same amount of watermelon as the size of your fist. Maybe a bit more.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3. Add a handful of frozen strawberries. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
4. Add a banana torn into little chunks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
5. Blend. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
6. Put in fridge as you clean up your mess.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
7. Find a straw. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
8. Get a stool to reach straw on top shelf. Don't fall off of stool.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
9. Add straw to smoothie and sit on porch instead of doing chemistry homework.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
10. Enjoy the fact that you are having the best smoothie you've ever made instead of doing your chemistry homework.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For my first ever recipe post, I'd say that went pretty well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Enjoy your smoothie. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Every Sherlock needs a Watson and of course, my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/167526391/benedict-otterbatch-sherlock-bbc?ref=pr_shop" style="text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">Benedict Otterbatch</a> needed his as well. The internet has decreed that if Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock BBC) is an otter, then Martin Freeman (John Watson in the same) is a hedgehog. I find this resemblance to be accurate and because the internet's wish is my command, I made a little Hedgejohn Watson to accompany the Otterbatch detective on his adventures. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Designing a pattern for this little guy was an adventure in itself. I basically meshed a bunch of different animal pattern together, cut a big hole in the back to replace with longer fur and made him a mohawk. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The scarf is black and white because in Sherlock BBC, John wears a black and white striped shirt, and its become a bit of staple John Watson outfit. </div>

I'm quite proud of his back fur, it looks enough like spikes that he doesn't look like a weird bear. In my opinion, I mean maybe he does, but I don't think so. </div>

If you guys want your own little John Watson or Sherlock Holmes, you can head on over to my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/BigBlueCatCreations?ref=l2-shopheader-name" style="text-decoration: underline;" target="_blank">Etsy shop.</a> <i>However</i>, I suggest you wait for a bit before buying these little guys. I have a few changes in mind and a few deals for you all, so be patient for a few weeks more and you will be pleasantly surprised. However, if you want to buy one now, feel free, I'm not going to stop you!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
