The bag of the messenger

Hello!

I have always wanted a messenger bag for some reason because in all the books I read and movies I watched, at least one of the cool characters had a messenger bag and I wanted one too!

After many years (okay, five minutes here and there when I remembered I wanted a messenger bag) of looking at these over priced accessories, I decided to make one. This didn't cost me anything, now that I think about it, because I got the fabric from my sewing teacher's closet, the strap from a bag  that had ripped open and a pattern of my own design.

See, this was one of our assignments in sewing class. I'm actually not giving it its real name because it's actually called "Textiles and Design". We had to design our own pattern for a bag. I know that most of the people in the class just drew something, slapped it together and turned it in for a grade. I figured that if I was going to sew something might as well make something that I'm going to use and like.

So this is the product of said thought.

It's made of navy blue corduroy with two pockets on the front and one center flap. If I could redesign it I would shorten the strap and add buckles or something to keep it closed, but so far the solution has been to not put too much stuff in it. I have used it quite a few times, it's very handy.

It's not reversible but it is lined with yellow and white flowers. The lining is a little bit off, but the teacher didn't notice and I most certainly don't mind, so there you go.

It's a very easy pattern, just squares and rectangles. As a basis for what size and dimensions I wanted, I just traced my laptop. I would suggest doing that if you don't really know what size to make your bag if you design one, even if you don't want to use to carry around your computer.

Also, in case you were wondering why I was gone so long, this is a thing that happened...

 Books!

Speaking of which (nice transition right there) I have a brand new blog that you should all check out (or not, you know, it's your life, I won't take it personally). It's over here and it's all about books and other things that I don't post on here. All my arty stuff will stay on this blog, but I like reviewing books and discussing other things, so I'll do that there.

Good bye and stay awesome!
