A good book, a sweater and a rabbit

Hello!

Remember a certain sweater that I was working on, oh, three months ago.

Hm, well, yes...
It is finished!

It's horrible to photograph, due to its sheer huge-ness. Aside from that though, it's wonderful.
Entirely acrylic yarn, I was surprised by how soft and comfortable it is, not scratchy at all, and really warm. My grandmother, who is awesome, sewed it up for me because - being the way that I am - I made a sweater without any knowledge of how to sew a sweater.
Merci Mamie!

Overall, I am very pleased with how it turned out. A big, soft sweater that I can wear when I get back from horseback riding.

Next on the list of things accomplished is a bunny.

His name is Patrick. Or Simon. I have yet to decide. Simon is nice, actually.
I'll go with Simon.

This is Simon, he is a bunny. I followed a pattern from a book, if you're wondering about how normal he looks. He is about 17cm tall and hand sewn out of fake fur. He has safety eyes and an embroidered nose. It's amazing how actual plastic eyes can make something like this look really professional.
I love him, he's very cute and cuddly, a perfect reading partner, along with my sweater.

And now, to finish explaining my title, a good book.

I have recently fallen in love with the TV series, Sherlock BBC. I won't expand on that here, because it can get long winded and you would probably think I'm insane.
Anyway, this led me to borrow Sherlock Holmes at the library. I was scared that the book would be a letdown after my infatuation with the show, but I was pleasantly surprised. The book is really well written: the characters are believable and the style is still relevant today. Sherlock is just as arrogant and full of his own intelligence as he is in the show. I liked it a lot.

That's all folks!
Have a nice day!
Bye!

(pardon the many exclamation points)

Spring Break

Hello!

Spring break is finally here!
It would be nice if the weather acknowledged that as well...

To celebrate this wondrous fact of a vacation, here is a pile of pretty fabric samples from this lovely shop, which was a gift from my aunt. Merci Isabelle!

I will be using my time of sweet freedom to make many things, I hope, so there will probably be a few posts in the very near future, you can look forward to that.

See you soon!
Bye!

Phoenix Tail Scarf

Hello!

I finished a big project! Yay! (This is quite an accomplishment.)

This is my beautiful Phoenix Tail Scarf, introduced here and - hm, hm ... obsessed over is the right term here I think - over here.  And because I'm throwing a bunch of links at you, the inspiration for this came from here. I do realize it's a man scarf. What can I say? I wear my dad's scarf more than I wear my own, which is why I made this one.

I was wondering if I should get a third skein, but frankly, for its weight, two was enough. It would be much too bulky otherwise.

Verdict: the stitch was really easy, the yarn was a dream fallen off a sheep, and the end result is exactly what I wanted. I love it!

The stitch is as follows: knit 3 stitches *knit 2 purl 1* to last 3 stitches, knit 3 stitches. I also did two rows of 2/2 ribbing at the beginning and end. Super easy and I think it's more interesting than just plain ribbing.

It better be cold tomorrow... watch it be the warmest day of the week, just so that I have no reason to wear my beautiful scarf.

Good-bye!
...

Seriously though, can it be a little bit cold? Just a little? So that I can test this scarfs warm-ness? (And yes, I know that there is an actual word for that and that it's 'warmth', but I like making up words. I'm Shakespeare is basically what I'm saying here.)

A week-end well spent

Hello!

So this week-end I decided that I would finish at least one project. I needed to do something. Sew, knit...whatever, something that was not for school.

And so, Ewan was born.

I'm not exactly sure what he is, but he's pretty cool.

I mean, he has a black sweatshirt and jeans. How can he not be cool?

Entirely hand-sewn, inspired by this, but seeing as I can't crochet, I decided to sew him instead.

I satisfied my need for creativity.... Now my desk looks like the place where all school work goes to die. I may need to fix that within the next few hours.

Anyway, have a nice end of week-end and whatnot.
Bye!

Changes and Unicorns

Hello!
I have made a few changes to the layout of the blog, as you probably noticed.

What can I say? I like to change things around every once in a while and I think that this is prettier. I will do my best not to switch things around too much, but it's fun.

I have a few projects that are pending photos, so I'll get those up here soon. I had a bit of a blank in the way of projects for a while, but it's starting to come back to me.

In the meantime, here is a list of songs that I have been listening to, a lot, over the last few days.

-The Lord of the Rings complete soundtrack (this is my homework music, my friend says it's too epic for her, but I think that it makes work more exciting)

-Your Bones, by Of Monsters and Men

-Hero, by Family of the Year

-Lost Cause, by Imagine Dragons

-My Fault, by Imagine Dragons

-Ready To Go, by Panic! At the Disco

I don't have any relevant picture for you right now, so have the drawing of a unicorn that I made just for you.

There's a recurring trend of Photoshop pictures starting around here....hm...this is probably a side effect of my "project blank". As soon as I get some more projects up, the drawings will stop, I promise.

Have a lovely day and I will be back soon!

*edit* I forgot to mention in my list of songs Home, by Phillip Phillips, Gone, Gone, Gone, by the same Phillip Phillips and One, by Mikah Young.

No excuses, just ramblings

Hello!

Don't try to fool us, Blue Cat, you've been gone for too long. Don't just "Hello!" us.

Well, I'm sorry. I have indeed been gone for a while, and here is the reason why.

I have been as un-productive as possible. Not intentionally, of course, these things happen. I've been knitting, more slowly, because I burned through my first ball of yarn in a matter of days and I don't want to finish my project too soon. (Strange philosophy, I know, but hey I never said that what I did made sense.)

Horrible picture, I'm very aware, but it's late and frankly, there is nothing I can do to fix winter lighting. I've tried, but for some reason, the sun just won't listen to me.

I have been trying my hand at animation for a school project and it looks something like this.

Yup. I'm kidding, I actually did some animation, but that is a legitimate part of my project (a humorous part, granted) and took up most of my Saturday.

The other part was taken up by horseback riding, which is my favorite thing to do ever, despite my horse (not really mine, but you know, he might as well be) Mack, deciding that he did not want me on his back that day. Thanks buddy, love you too.

Other than that, I watched Disney-Pixar's Brave for the first time. I loved it - no surprise there - because, let's face it: it was made for me. A movie set in old Scotland, with a warrior princess, a horse, three adorable little boys, magic, humor, action, sword fighting and archery. I was very happy.

I got a bow and arrows. Unrelated to the movie, but I thought it was funny that I watched the movie and then got a bow the next day. We're going to set up an archery range in the backyard, so that'll be fun. It'll give me a reason to go outside: I will release my inner warrior princess.

That's it, no excuses, just ramblings about what I've been up to.

Hope all is well, and have a wonderful week!
